What to consider when deciding on lip enhancement

A bespoke lip enhancement can be done gradually and in a way that gives a natural shape and fullness to the lips.

Here’s what you should know before considering lip fillers:

Today’s sophisticated fillers contain Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – a substance that’s found naturally in the body – which can be injected into your lips and around the mouth. In terms of discomfort, the procedure shouldn’t be any more uncomfortable than getting your eyebrows threaded. Numbing cream may be applied too. And there’s even a dose of the painkiller lidocaine mixed in with the HA in the syringe, which gets to work as soon as it’s in your skin.

Temporary lip fillers tend to last on average between 4-6 months. After which the HA gradually degrades. The client may then choose to have a further filler to maintain the enhanced look, or stop and allow the filler to eventually degrade.

It’s incredibly important to allow only a qualified, reputable professional to administer lip fillers. If you’re unhappy with the results, we are able to dissolve the HA instantly with another injection. You will be able to see the product you’re being injected with as it is taken from the box, during the procedure, so you can see exactly what is going on and what is being used.

After the injection, the lips are massaged so the filler is evenly distributed. This is to stop bumps in the skin (granulomas) emerging because the aesthetician has failed to properly massage it through the lip.

There are common immediate injection-related reactions that will occur almost immediately such as redness, swelling and possibly some bruising. The injected area can also become slightly sore and tender following a treatment. These are known as mild-moderate reactions and typically resolve spontaneously over a few days after the treatment and should be nothing to worry about.
