What to consider when deciding on lip enhancement

A bespoke lip enhancement can be done gradually and in a way that gives a natural shape and fullness to the lips.

Here’s what you should know before considering lip fillers:

Today’s sophisticated fillers contain Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – a substance that’s found naturally in the body – which can be injected into your lips and around the mouth. In terms of discomfort, the procedure shouldn’t be any more uncomfortable than getting your eyebrows threaded. Numbing cream may be applied too. And there’s even a dose of the painkiller lidocaine mixed in with the HA in the syringe, which gets to work as soon as it’s in your skin.

Temporary lip fillers tend to last on average between 4-6 months. After which the HA gradually degrades. The client may then choose to have a further filler to maintain the enhanced look, or stop and allow the filler to eventually degrade.

It’s incredibly important to allow only a qualified, reputable professional to administer lip fillers. If you’re unhappy with the results, we are able to dissolve the HA instantly with another injection. You will be able to see the product you’re being injected with as it is taken from the box, during the procedure, so you can see exactly what is going on and what is being used.

After the injection, the lips are massaged so the filler is evenly distributed. This is to stop bumps in the skin (granulomas) emerging because the aesthetician has failed to properly massage it through the lip.

There are common immediate injection-related reactions that will occur almost immediately such as redness, swelling and possibly some bruising. The injected area can also become slightly sore and tender following a treatment. These are known as mild-moderate reactions and typically resolve spontaneously over a few days after the treatment and should be nothing to worry about.

Cellulite reduction treatment – The fight against cellulite

A simple yet effective treatment for cellulite reduction

If you fancy ridding yourself of cellulite during the course of a few lunch hours and heading back to work in comfort afterwards, my clinic is the first south of London to offer cellulite reduction treatments incorporating the BTL Exilis Advance, a machine used by celebrities which has featured on TV shows such as The Real Housewives and The Kardashians.
FDA approved for cellulite reduction, this non-surgical solution works by stimulating and strengthening collagen whilst simultaneously firming loose skin and destroying fat cells. I’m absolutely delighted to offer this to patients, especially as there are many conditions which can be treated. However, I am going to start with cellulite, because as the nights draw in and we cover up, remember… it’s not very long to go until we uncover for Christmas parties.
Cellulite is the dimpled appearance of skin which happens as collagen structures change with age. This machine has the ability to bring about fantastic results and make a real difference in one month, whatever your age or area of concern. Treatment is relaxing and performed whilst you are lying down. It takes between 15 and 90 minutes and most patients will undergo four sessions, one each week.
Fat cells are effectively destroyed by a combination of radio-frequency and ultrasound. Results are inspiring and those I treat remark that it’s similar to the feel of a hot stone massage.
I apply treatment to specific areas of tissue where cellulite is in evidence – from top to toe – results may be visibly obvious after just one session, whilst a series of treatments can last for years.
This is a medical grade machine, only available at medical establishments where practitioners are qualified to my level (this therapy has been thoroughly tested in several clinical studies).
I’ve found that in meeting and successfully treating patients with cellulite, this ‘helping hand’ has motivated them to embrace additional health and wellbeing regimes.
If cellulite is affecting your life or body image, please get in touch today. I really enjoy carrying out this treatment because it brings about a genuine transformation in weeks.

Skin Tag Removal Hampshire

Skin Tag Removal – Cryotherapy

I have a number of patients who come to see me at our Hampshire clinic looking for skin tag removal or with skin imperfections which are causing concern. This is often affecting their confidence or indeed quality of life. In some cases the imperfection is not only unsightly but also causing discomfort by rubbing again clothing.

Patients may have already visited their Doctor only to find that cosmetic procedures for skin imperfections are no longer being treated by many practitioners on the NHS.

Using advanced cryotherapy innovation in the form of a CryoPen I am able to treat a range of skin imperfections quickly, safely and effectively here in the comfort of the face and skin clinic.

Imperfections that are suitable for Cryotherapy are:

  • skin tag removal

  • pigmentation

  • warts

  • age spots

  • milia

  • cherry angioma

  • viral verrucae

So how does Cryotherapy  work?

The CryoPen emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, allowing me to work with millimetre precision. The jet destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, therefore destroying the cell.

What are the benefits?

As the CryoPen is incredibly accurate it is a low-risk and minimally invasive procedure with no collateral damage to healthy tissue.  A pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle will be experienced when the nitrous oxide reaches the bottom of the area that is being treated – but this only lasts for a few minutes.

Treatment time depends on the area and thickness of the tissue being treated, with an application time from 5 to 30 seconds. So patients can be in and out of the clinic quickly.  Then over the next few weeks your skin tags and imperfections will just drop off or fade out!

The price for Cryotherapy starts at £50 and a consultation is necessary to assess the area needing treatment.

Why wouldn’t you?

You may have heard of Botox injections used for cosmetic purposes. But do you know why people opt for the procedure? And did you also know that there are a number of medical conditions that can be treated with Botox?

Most people opt for Botox injections to lend them a more youthful appearance. The treatment can smooth out wrinkles or fine lines that gather around the eyes, on the forehead and on other areas of the face. Appearing younger can raise an older person’s self-esteem or their confidence.

Other than the cosmetic reasoning, there are some significant corrective medical appliances for Botox treatment.

One of these is to treat hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis is a common condition in which a person sweats excessively. This can be from the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) or from the palms and soles of the feet (palmoplantar hyperhidrosis). The condition often causes embarrassment to the sufferer and feelings of low self-esteem. Botox injections have been used successfully to treat hyperhidrosis so that patients have felt confident to go out in warmer weather without the worry of excessive perspiration. Not a permanent solution, but one that can offer relief for up to seven months.

Botox can alleviate migraines. Migraine attacks can be both painful and debilitating. Botox helps by relaxing the muscles responsible for the onset of these intense headaches. It’s suggested that the chemical can block the sensory nerves that transmit the pain signals to the brain. A series of Botox treatments are able to reduce substantially the occurrence of migraines.

Botox is used as a preferred form of plastic surgery over traditional plastic surgery because it offers the patient a quicker recovery. That can be an attractive proposition for people who need to return to work as soon as possible. In many cases, patients are able to resume their day-to-day lives within a day or two at the most.
From an impact perspective, the injections do not cause severe bruising or internal bleeding as can happen in other forms of cosmetic procedure. Also, Botox does not require a permanent commitment. Its effects can be altered if the patient isn’t happy with the initial results.

If you’re local to us, we perform Botox treatments in our Southampton clinic. Do give us a call or drop in and let us offer you a personal consultation.

Treating excessive underarm sweating (Hyperhidrosis) with Botox

I have both male and female patients come to see, often in a state of great distress and embarrassment, because although we all sweat, excessive underarm sweating (Hyperhidrosis) interferes with everyday life.

The condition ruins their shirts and they live in black and white tops or clothing which will not highlight the condition. They are often highly embarrassed by what has become a debilitating medical condition – it’s inconvenient, affects their quality of life and restricts activities which the majority of us take for granted.

I’ve had patients come along and tell me they’ve been prescribed medical deodorants, yet applying these causes pain. Another aspect is that they are embarrassed when they have to give presentations in the workplace or are out socialising.

Using Botox to treat Hyperhidrosis requires a higher dose than for cosmetic treatments. It works on the sweat glands rather than muscles and I have a 100% success rate to date with this treatment. It can also be used on the forehead to combat excessive sweating.

I see patients from Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and further afield. Some are referred to me by fellow medical practitioners, others get in touch because they have researched Botox for Hyperhidrosis and know it is a quality of life treatment.

We are very sympathetic to your needs here at the face and skin clinic and delight in seeing patients go on to lead a fantastic quality of life after treatment, which lasts approximately eight months.

Please get in touch if this is an issue which affects your life. I really enjoy carrying out this treatment because it is truly life-changing.
